About the event

The dormice are sleeping, the owls are twit-twooing, the holly and the ivy are all fully grown… The deepest darkest night cometh! Let’s wallow in the darkness a little while - how else are you meant to appreciate the light?! Yule, or the Winter Solstice, is a really magical time of year, with feasting, fires, and bright evergreens - all traditions that celebrate the light within the dark. However, it’s also a nice pause in the year where the darkness of the long night leaves space for dreaming, reflection and taking stock.

It’s easy to lose the magic of midwinter in all the Christmas madness - so join us in celebrating it on the longest night! On Thursday 21st December we will be holding a Yule ritual workshop from 8pm till 10pm to embrace the magic of the dark. We’ll share our considerable historical knowledge about this ancient festival, learn about (and ingest) a magical seasonal herb, do some gentle midwinter rituals and craft a special solstice gift for you to take home! There’ll be a delicious Yuletide snack and a dreamy drink to whet the wintery whistle.

We are happy to be hosting this at Bridge Farm. Bridge Farm is about Living with The Land, in Community. Old buildings are being restored for habitation and new buildings are being envisioned for truly affordable self-build housing. The earth is being slowly and sensitively worked, with trees, flowers, vegetables, fruit and animals working alongside wildlife corridors. The barns undergoing renovation provide space and place for education, gatherings and celebrations.

All food and drink provided will be vegan.

Accessibility

This event is happening at Bridge Farm, where we will be in the Top Barn. It’s indoors, but it is still a barn, so may be a little chilly - dress warm. The path from the road to the barn is slightly sloped, unevenly paved, and can be a bit muddy. The toilets are across the yard from the barn (approx. 30m) and are in outdoor cubicles. The event will be mostly sat inside the barn, but weather dependent we may take a little turn outside. People are welcome to participate in whatever they feel comfortable with. Please get in touch if you have any access needs or want to chat anything through.

Getting to the site

Please use the main entrance on Glenfrome Road. There are loads of ways to get to Bridge Farm and we would encourage sustainable transport! There are plenty of spaces just outside the site to lock bikes. Plenty of buses stop nearby too. On street parking is available on Glenfrome Road.
