ABOUT COVEN OVEN
Coven Oven is two friends who want to share their love of the land, witchcraft, food, herbs and folklore. We lead celebrations to guide people through the eight festivals that make up the Wheel of the Year, using food, ritual, and craft.
Our current offerings are zines and parcels full of witchy treats - both delivered to your door to help you celebrate each festival.
Coven Oven was born out of a desire to mark out the year and connect to the seasons as they arrive and pass by. Through marking out the seasons we hope we will understand better what is going on in the non-human world, have a chance to notice more and feel a sense of connection to ourselves in the land.
The wheel of the year is a calendar that marks out the cyclical processes the earth goes through each year in its perpetual cycle of growth and retreat as it moves around the sun. The wheel is punctuated by eight celebrations that mark important times in the cycle - the equinoxes, the solstices, and the cross-quarter festivals. These festivals are Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Summer Solstice, Lammas, Mabon, Samhain and Yule. These festivals have a rich and tangled history from celtic roots to Victorian revelries to modern day pagan imaginings; they are ever evolving each year as they continue to be celebrated.
Coven Oven was started because we wanted to make more opportunities to celebrate together; in a secular society we are missing out on moments to come together around something greater than ourselves; the land, the sun, the moon, magic!
Our celebrations always include eating delicious seasonal food, some simple rituals, learning about the history and mythology of the festival and learning about the magic of herbs and plants.
